THE INSPIRATION
The graphic illustration is inspired by the WPAP Art form developed by the Indonesian artist Wedha Abdul Rashid, which is made using straight lines and sharp, vibrant, contrasting fills.

RESEARCH
Initial study involved the study of light falling on human face to differentiate between light and dark areas of a portrait. The contours of the portraits are formed by contrasting colors whose vibrance elevate the facial features. The highlights and shadows are formed of dark & light hues.

FINAL ILLUSTRATION
Connecting the similarities between the art forms and promoting the vibrant performing art of Kerala “ Kathakali” I chose to portray the Kathakali artist face using WPAP art. A color palette of about 15 colors with complementing temperatures was used to fill in the highlights and shadows of the artists portrait.
